A Beginner’s Step-by-Step Guide to Silent Meditation

If you’ve never meditated before, you’re not alone.

Meditation can sound and feel daunting. You may have heard about the benefits of meditation, such as an increased feeling of happiness, calm and wellbeing and want to give it a try.

The best part is about meditation is you can do it anytime, anywhere and it doesn’t cost anything. The hardest part is getting started.

Here is a beginner’s step-by-step guide to silent meditation:

1. Find a quiet place.

This could be in your house, or outdoors.

2. Sit comfortably.

You can sit in a chair or on the floor. Feel your spine grow tall, and your shoulders relaxed.

3. Close your eyes and breathe.

Begin by breathing gently through your nose, if possible.

4. Notice your thoughts and let them go.

Allow your thoughts to come and go. Don’t try and push them away. When your mind wanders, simply bring your attention back to your breath. Repeat. When you feel complete, you may open your eyes.

5. Practice meditation consistently.

Practice meditation daily, even if it’s only for a few minutes. The benefits of meditation are proven in this short amount of time so long as it’s regular. Consistency is the key to success.
